Tips to Best Organise Your Walk-in Closet

Thanks to the clever design of a walk-in closet, it’s very easy just to shut the doors and ignore any mess that you’ve made in there. ‘Out of sight, out of mind’ as the saying goes, but do you really want your private sanctuary to be chaotic, stressful and disorganised?

It’s important to keep such spaces decluttered and streamlined for increased peace of mind. And whilst it might feel like a daunting task, here are a few simple ways to bring your closet back to its former glory and give your belongings the respect they deserve.

Clean and Clear the Clutter

From shirts to skirts, boots to books, there’s an awful lot of potential for mess to accumulate in your walk-in closet. In fact, there might be things in there that you never wear or use anymore which are adding even more to the mess and disorder.

If you don’t know exactly what you have in your closet anymore, that might be a sign that you need to do a declutter or ‘purge’. Don’t cling on to things that you haven’t worn in years; donate them to someone who will really love them and create more space for your existing belongings.

Keep the Floors Clear

The whole point of a walk-in wardrobe is that you can step into it and peruse your clothes without being having to bend over drawers and sift through wardrobes. Keep the space primed for its intended use by keeping the floors clear. Not only will it be more inviting to go into, but it will also keep it from looking like another regular closet.

Add Storage

Clever storage solutions are key to keeping your closet organised and considering the small amount of space you have, you need to make the most of it.

Use the height of the room to install a rail to hang long items like coats and dresses. This will keep them looking their best rather than being scrunched up on a shelf. And speaking of shelves, it’s also a great idea to install some floating and open shelves to store the things you use most regularly. Maybe it’s your favourite jumper or go-to skinny jeans – this way, they’ll always be within reach.

Shoes can be tricky to store without making the room look messy, so think about bringing in some shoe boxes to stylishly stow them away. This way, they’re also not dirtying your clothes!

Stay Organised

Another great hack when it comes to sorting your wardrobe is to sort by season. Put your snuggly jumpers on the top shelves so they’re out of the way for the summer months or put your sandals elsewhere to make room for your chunky boots in winter.
